For young people

Youth

Melbourne AMEP offers youth specific classes for newly arrived young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Our Commitment

Melbourne AMEP recognises that young people have education and pathway needs that are different to adults.  We are committed to providing stimulating education, pathway and settlement support for young people to transition to independence, equipped to fully pursue their personal, study, work and community involvement goals.

Melbourne AMEP Youth Classes are for newly arrived young people between 16 and 25 years old who want to:

  • improve English language skills
  • meet other young people in a similar situation
  • take steps into further study and work

Melbourne AMEP youth delivery is centred on a holistic approach guided by the National Youth Settlement Framework good practice capabilities developed by MYAN.  “The National Youth Settlement Framework (NYSF) is Australia’s first evidence-based framework for supporting good practice and measuring settlement outcomes for young people.”  Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network- MYAN.

Transition to Pathways

Providers recognise that multi-cultural youth experience additional challenges and barriers to participation.  All youth programs within the Melbourne AMEP are embedded within the TAFE sector, offering supported transitions to VET and Higher Education courses.

I feel like now is the time to be able to focus on learning my English. Not rushing it. Taking the steps so that I end up where I want to be.
